Doris is a native of northern Baltimore County who developed an interest in horses at an early age, owning her first horse at age six (“a mixture of Appaloosa and whatever”), and heading off to the race track at age 17, where she worked for several trainers and eventually acquired a training license herself. She spent ten years on the backstretch, then after boarding and managing horses privately, subsequently worked in Maryland and Pennsylvania for major breeding operations, foaling mares, managing broodmares and foals, caring for stallions, and prepping sales prospects. She has more than ten years of experience in breeding farm operations and management. Doris began working with the Stallion Station at the time the facility was opened.
